PRESIDENT TRUMP …

donald-trump-39

In 2008, Oprah and Will Smith yelled and screamed and high-fived each other over how amazing the Obama presidency was going to be.

But then, we had a “beer summit” (that was odd). Then, a trillion dollar stimulus package …that turned into a deficit. Then a Tea Party. Then Occupy Wall Street. Then Ferguson, Baltimore, Sandy Hook, San Bernardino, Orlando, Chattanooga, Benghazi and Dallas. Then came Obamacare. And ISIS rose up in the middle east.

Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Merle Haggard and Steve Jobs ALL died during the Obama presidency. Peyton Manning retired. American Idol got cancelled. Tornadoes still ravaged trailer parks in the mid west and hurricanes still chewed up beaches. Several people got eaten by sharks. Brad and Angelina broke up. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian procreated. Smart phones blew up in people’s pockets. We had, like, six hundred Country Music award shows …and Bruce Jenner is now a woman.

Some of that you can blame on President Obama and some of it …you can’t. It shows that presidents can affect a lot. But life is going to suck sometimes, no matter who the guy is in charge.

Speaking of the country …it elected a new president last night. Some people are too happy …and some are too sad. The anger and vitriol we all thought (and prayed) would end, once the ballots were cast, seems to only be ratcheting up. I suppose it’s easy to call for everyone to accept the will of the people when you think your candidate is going to win.

Nevertheless, the thing about presidents elect is you can never really know what you’re about to get. I always chuckle at those press questions in a campaign, “what qualifies you to be president?” The truth is NOTHING qualifies ANYONE for that job. Maybe being a governor of a big state …maybe not. Until they take you in that back room and brief you on how bad it really is, you can’t know how you’re going to govern.

I have no idea what kind of President Mr Trump will be. We can never know these things. But I always give first timers the benefit of the doubt. I would’ve done the same thing for Mrs Clinton. I definitely did for Mr Obama …and it’s in print somewhere.

What I DON’T believe is that we’re about to turn into Nazi Germany (and I’ve read some posts from people who actually believe that). I don’t think we’re going to roll back to the 1950s in our social order. If Donald Trump is anything, he’s as immersed in current pop culture as Miley Cyrus. A man who was a regular guest on Howard Stern isn’t going to be interested in a puritanical revival of any kind. He’s not coming after “the gays” or the “transgender.” To the contrary, when Caitlyn Jenner (formerly the aforementioned Bruce) asked him where she could use the restroom in his hotel, his answer was “use which ever one you feel comfortable in.”

The point is, we might be projecting some of our own irrational fears onto a man who is definitely flawed …but probably not evil incarnate.

The “educated” among us are reminding us how utterly stupid the country is for voting for this man, while simultaneously wringing their hands, melting down emotionally and predicting Armageddon (like …for real). They may be right about it all …but they may be wrong.

I am not moving to Canada. I am not going underground. I refuse to sling insults at people who voted one way or another and become a caricature of a petty, ignorant American. In this country if you run and get the votes …you get to be president. That’s still a good thing …even if you don’t like the result.

For the Hillary supporters …pull yourselves together. Please. Some of you are embarrassing yourselves. For the Trump supporters …some of you are too. A little grace and humility might be in order. You just elected Donald J Trump as your nation’s president …and he was once a part of Wrestle Mania.

Still, I believe in the ability of people to surprise you. And I, for one, am going to give this man some room to prove that.

There are not a lot of choices left.

  1. Common sense tells us all that with Clinton winning California and New York that of course that would up her popular vote but the truth is that Trump won MORE states thus more electoral votes. No matter how you slice it DJT is the President -Elect. I personally don’t see how he can make things any worse than they are at this time. Maybe we should at least give him a chance to get in office before we continue to tear him down?

I’ll be surprised if he lasts a term without being impeached. The Republicans would prefer Pence in the hot seat anyway…only a matter of time before Trump stuffs up.
          As George R Martin said….”Winter is coming….”

Instead of pointing the finger at everyone else look at the 3 fingers pointing back at yourself while you’re doing it. Making the world a better place starts with YOU – do you mentor kids with no fathers? Feed the hungry in your city/town? What about donating coats to the homeless? What about offering a room where you live to someone who can’t get ahead and needs a leg up?

You certainly sound like one of those open minded liberals who loves everybody, unless they disagree with you. Then you demonize them. The economy is stagnant, people need jobs and open borders are hurting the country. Democrats failed to realize that the influx of 12 million unskilled people would eventually reach a breaking point, and it did. Both parties do it. They get in a position of power and go too far.

            • Bill, I appreciate there has been hardship but that is hardly a new phenomenon is it ? Changes are undoubtedly needed to advantage more of America, but I’m not sure that the choice that has been made has been made for the right reasons..even research tells you more people thought Clinton was the more qualified to hold the position, yet they voted for Trump anyway. Desperate ? So disillusioned with current Government that they would vote for this Clown, warts and all, in the vain hope he has a magic wand somewhere ?
I can’t help thinking that the office of POTUS has been devalued…the credibility of the office and the USA is at stake here…the World is watching. Though I don’t suppose the folk in Hicksville care too much about anything outside of US borders do they ?
I hope it works, I really do, but I don’t trust anything the guy says frankly.

            • Bill, I would like to respond too the part of your comment about the influx of 12 million unskilled people. Some do have skills, but I have noticed that many of those people are working in the following jobs. Jobs that many American citizens will not apply for. Jobs that you and I really need someone to work at. Jobs such as road construction, roofing, yard work, landscaping, working in large dairies, working in feed lots, meat packing, picking the fruits and veggies at extremely low pay. They are the house cleaners in your homes if you happen to hire that done, they clean the nice hotel rooms, the hospital rooms, they do all sort of manual labor jobs that a lot of people will not apply for. Many of these jobs are “back breaking”. Back in the 60’s I knew college students doing that kind of work to earn tuition money, but those days are long gone, those college students “would not be caught dead” doing that kind of work now. I agree the economy is stagnant and there are a lot of skilled people who have lost their jobs thanks to what went on in the Bush Administration and that Obama inherited. Lots of those jobs are not coming back. The West Virginia people who had jobs in the coal industry voted for Trump because they thought their jobs were going to come back. Those coal mines have proven unsafe, and in 4 years time they will not be retooled to became better mines. Coal is more expensive than natural gas, Those jobs are not coming back. BUT we do need to do something as a country so that those people can gain the skills needed for jobs that can be created in the areas where they live. I don’t have the answer for that, but they need jobs, they don’t have the ability to pick up and move elsewhere to where jobs might be, not when they are past 50.

            • Sarah…You perpetuate a lie that has cost many skilled workers their livelihood…I will use one example as it was recent and anyone reading it should remember…The illegal driver of a bus full of illegals that crashed heading into Louisiana after the massive flooding there in August.
These people were CONTRACTORS…THEY WERE NOT GOING THERE TO PICK APPLES!!!
over 60% of the independent contracting jobs in the US went to “Undocumented workers” Other words Illegals!! Gee Sarah .. Is it Carpenters and heavy equipment operators .etc, etc. etc Jobs that “no Americans will do”?????? YOUR LIE is even worse when there IS a guest worker program in place for those who want to come up and pick fruit/vegetables….YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF SARAH!!!!

I dont have a crystal ball but only people who think they are above everyone else thinks they “know” what is going to happen. Calm down. The senate and house are also very much responsible for everything that happens in this country, not just whoever happens to be president. Only those of us who are not trying to get people from other countries to pay attention to our “celebritydom”, are the ones who cant wait for change. (I dont even want to watch alot of tv programs) Thats why people voted for Mr Trump. Criticizing, name calling, (again, you dont know everyone who voted for Trump) makes you sound like all the names you called people. If someone doesnt agree with you that doesnt make them any less (or more) informed than you.

It is so sad that none of you have investigated your candidates. 3. Roz – getting rid of the Electoral College is an extremely BAD idea unless you live in one of the largest urban areas. Do you realize that this year all a candidate would have had to do is win the metropolitan areas of NYC (22M), LA(17.5M), Chicago (9.8M), Washington (8.3M), SF (7.6m) and maybe one or two other medium population centers (assuming not everyone votes the same way) to wrap up the popular vote? Just campaign in those cities, promise more entitlements and Federal benefits and you’ve become the President. The smaller states and cities would have no voice to address their concerns in the election whatsoever, even if 100% of their citizens turned out to vote. This exact issue was discussed at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 – the small states were extremely concerned about the will of the large states being imposed on them through a popular vote, and they would have no recourse short of secession. The Electoral College is the only way to ensure that ALL states have proportional representation in a national election.

Like the people who carried signs calling Obama Hitler, carried ropes and had signs that said “Lynch the Nigger” and questioned his legitimacy to even be president? Obama didn’t have 70 odd lawsuits against him coming into office, nor did he stand accused of sexual assault, yet Republicans obstructed his every move. Hillary:
    -Obstruction of a Congressional Subpoena
    -Lies to the American people
-Lies to Congress (While under oath)
-Believes in killing a baby as late as the 9th month of pregnancy
-Laughed in the face of the woman her husband raped when he was acquitted in the case and also called her a whore who was asking for it
    -Benghazi
(I think this is enough for her… you get the picture… I hope)

    Trump:
-Took legal tax breaks (as any American would no matter how much money you make)
-11 years ago said he sexually assaults women (yet never taken to trial or convicted of such crime)
…. That is about it folks…

People think he wants to get rid of immigrants, G.L.B.Ts, and all sorts of crazy shit but haven’t actually listened to one of his speeches. He wants to remove any ILLEGAL immigrants who have been convicted of a large crime or involved with drugs. He wants to improve the legalization process for immigrants to people can become citizens faster, his wife is an immigrant for Christ’s sake. He respects people’s choice on what they identify their-self as (Such as the Caitlyn Jenner case mentioned above). Love who you want and if you don’t want the child you are about to give birth to there are families out there waiting in line to take care of that child for you.

Give Trump a chance, obviously more people want him over Hillary hints how he won the election. Yes, he has said and done some things that people wouldn’t agree with… but hasn’t everyone at some point. Drop all of the hate and pick up some love in this world. We need it.

He was chosen above ALL ODDS. He beat all the odds because he was chosen by God. Prayer chains went out and our prayers to rid us of the demonic ideologies of the Democratic Party were answered. Late Term Abortion, changing our Constitution to a living document are just two examples. To which, if Hillary had been elected the Supreme Court Justice would have been appointed by Hillary. Then they could determine the Constitution would become a living document and change the 1st/2nd Amendments. You would lose your free speech, your right to bear arms. The right to bear arms was not for hunting or protecting your home. It was set up to protect you against tyrannic Governments, foreign or domestic. You need to look up your parties policies. I’m confused. Unless it’s photoshopped, your photo suggests that you’re pretty young. How many presidential campaigns have you followed? I hope you were enjoying childhood and adolescence rather than watching press conferences the past 16 years. If not, check out Erik Erikson. You’ve got some catching up to do.

Also, you realize that the frontal lobe of your brain, the part that has to do with good judgment and higher-ordered thinking, isn’t fully formed until around age 25, right? This is well documented. We all go through it; can’ be helped.

Sorry, R., but you’re embarrassing yourself like some of the voters you referred to in your article.

This is not to say that young people don’t have valid and interesting things to say. You have passion and energy and great imagination. But you also have some limitations, and when you’re telling enormous groups of people what to do, they are painfully obvious.

Unless, of course, you’ve been photoshopped like hell. In that case, you might want to consider a more honest self portrait. You will make infinitely more sense, I promise.

When hate crimes increase significantly post-election day #1 against vulnerable groups, that doesn’t bode well. When the POTUS-elect remains silent in the face of hate crimes increasing it doesn’t bode well. When Americans, particularly those who are in those very same vulnerable populations, who are upset and frightened, exercise the First Amendment rights by protesting and the first thing tweeted is “not fair”, it doesn’t bode well. When the POTUS-elect campaigns on “draining the swamp” and then appointing well-known lobbyists to head parts of his transition team, it doesn’t bode well. So, I think many opponents are cautiously giving him a chance since his failure helps no one, but they are also holding him accountable. Hopefully his supporters will be honest and hold him accountable as well.

Don’t Google it either. Google is just a popularity contest. It doesn’t “fact check” like the major newspapers and television channels. Well actually it does. The criteria is clicks, views, or comments. A twitter war carries more weight than sworn congressional testimony.

been embodies by the Trump campaign and the supporters thereof. Especially young people who have birthright privilege. I know the author has had some tough thinks in his life but he is a white, presumably straight male. That in itself gives him an enormous advantage which even though he is thoughtful and obviously smart, he doesn’t fully realize just how much that gives him. That someone as good as him thinks this way makes me very concerned.

  15. Every negative word written about Trump is probably true. .. a self absorbed narcissist, IMO, but he is still better than the ClintonHAG. .. . who is a vile, nasty, corrupt, liar. . . and would have destroyed the remaining freedoms we all have. Anyone who voted for, or supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 is a failed American. . .shame on you. . .

  16. Finally – words of reason and common sense. This business of whining, rioting, looting, ranting – it’s all getting quite tedious and childish. There were people who didn’t think Obama as a first-term Senator was qualified either – but I didn’t see marches, vandalism and death threats going rampant.
    Thank you for this post.

  17. We should respect our leaders, and give them a chance; you are correct.

I would add one note too if I may.
Government in general isn’t the solution to anything, regardless of one’s political position.
The answer to every ill of life, is to place all of our trust in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Only Jesus can save our souls, which will exist to eternity beyond our nanosecond of earthly life.
He loves all of us, and only He can give us life.

    Grace and peace to you.
